I bought these Alpine Type-S SPS-400 to replace my front speakers & tweeters in my grand am. The built-in tweeters on these speakers are excellent even being down by my leg on the door they deliver crisp highs and a good mid-range.
so Pros: good-great highs, good mids. good price online. Not much choice for good speakers at 4"
Cons: unsatisfying bass (not that they are intended for bass use, but I have to turn the bass on my alpine head unit down and more sound to the back speakers if I crank the volume up otherwise the bass is distorted. |

Look to be well made, and sound "OK." Admittedly I bought the smaller size to fit a factory hole, but their sound quality just isn't exceptional.
Also disappointing is that they don't come with grills of any sort - all you get is the speaker, some screws, and short wires to hook them up. I made covers, but wasn't expecting that glaring omission. |
